Choosing a cigar cabinet humidor

A cigar cabinet is the step up from a desktop or end-table humidor: a floor-standing, Spanish cedar-lined cabinet that holds anywhere from about 1,000 to 8,500 cigars. Three decisions narrow the list quickly: how many cigars you need to hold, whether you want to show boxes or store them, and how the cabinet will keep its humidity.

Size up rather than down. A box usually holds 20 to 25 cigars, collections grow, and cabinets hold humidity better when they are not packed to the glass.

Cabinet humidors for display or for storage

Glass doors and angled shelves show boxes face-out, which matters in a shop or lounge. Solid lower cabinets and drawers hold back stock and keep light off cigars you are aging. Many cabinets do both: display shelves above, storage below.

How a cigar humidor cabinet keeps its humidity

A traditional cabinet follows the temperature of the room and needs a humidifier inside it. The kits include a Hydra electronic humidifier; for other cabinets, add a Hydra Turbo or a similar unit that plugs into the cabinet's interior outlet. If your room runs warm in summer or very dry in winter, an electronic cabinet such as the Humidor Supreme 9200 controls temperature and humidity on its own.

Frequently asked questions

Do cabinet humidors come with a humidifier?
Only the kits do. For other cabinets, add a Hydra electronic humidifier; it plugs into the interior outlet.

How do I season a new cabinet?
Run the humidifier with the cabinet empty for several days until it holds around 65–70% on a hygrometer, then load your cigars.

How are cabinets delivered?
By freight on a pallet with liftgate delivery to your curb or driveway, free of charge. Plan two people to move it inside.

What is the difference between a cigar cabinet and a cabinet humidor?
Nothing; they are two names for the same thing: a floor-standing, cedar-lined cabinet that keeps cigars at the right humidity.

Cigar cabinet and humidor cabinet questions

Is a cigar cabinet the same as a cabinet humidor?

Yes. "Cigar cabinet", "humidor cabinet" and "cabinet humidor" all mean a floor-standing, Spanish cedar-lined cabinet that keeps cigars at a steady humidity. A plain glass display case without a humidification system is not a humidor; check that the cabinet has a humidifier or a cooling and humidity system, a hygrometer and a sealed door.

Passive or electric humidor cabinet?

Passive cabinets (like the Tower of Power) use a humidifier such as the Hydra and work well in a room that stays around 65–72°F. Electric cabinets (like the Humidor Supreme electronic models) add a compressor that also controls temperature, which matters in warm rooms, garages and summer heat. Our electric vs traditional guide compares them side by side.

How many cigars does a cigar cabinet really hold?

Rated capacities assume loose, small cigars. If you keep cigars in their boxes, plan on roughly half to two-thirds of the label number. See how many cigars really fit in a humidor, or ask us for a free room plan and we'll size it in boxes.

How is a humidor cabinet delivered?

Cabinets ship free by freight with liftgate delivery, and the carrier calls you to schedule it. Inspect the cabinet before you sign; if anything is damaged, note it on the receipt and we replace it at no cost (Freight Damage Promise). More in what to expect on delivery.
